A Shy Visitor

The rain taps on my window like a shy visitor

With groceries and fresh flowers

She is dropping by to remind me that

there is something out there-

More than I think there is

She asks me to believe that it's safe for me

Outside the shelter I crafted for myself with cynicism and fear

I open the window to greet her

And all of the kindness had tried to smother

Comes rushing in
