Tears

Nightbirde photo - Tears poem

I've collected my tears today

And given each of them a name

Loneliness

Regret

Longing

Confusion

Despair

And when the dusk is purple,

I will carry a bucket to mountain peaks And pour them out

They'll travel abandoned roads into a ghost town

Down into the sand-yellow valley that will one day be green

Legend has it that the trees will one day grow again

My name wasn't in the story, so I wrote it there myself

And I wrote it on my feet and on my face and on my hands

So on tearful days like these

Everything | touch will have a smudge of the promise

That these tears won't be for nothing
